The month of September is the rainiest of all for the city and suburbs. The city and HAL observatories have a normal rainfall of 208.3 mm. HAL has recorded 125 mm, while the city station recorded 89.3 mm of rainfall between 01st and 21st September. Moderate to heavy showers are expected for the next about three days, with more of it today and tomorrow. The later part of the week will have very light and isolated rainfall activity. Weather conditions will remain fairly pleasant throughout.
A low-pressure area is marked over the central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal. This is likely to become a depression tomorrow and a deep depression a day later. The wind field of this system is covering most parts of the South Peninsula. An east-west-oriented trough is extending from the centre of the system to Kerala, passing across South Andhra Pradesh and South Interior Karnataka. Strong and sharp turning of winds, coupled with the shear zone of the trough, will favour rain and thundershower activity over Karnataka in general and the capital city in particular. The Silicon City has the added advantage of an elevated plateau of nearly 3,000 feet, providing conducive conditions for rainfall.
While the depression remains over the sea for the next two days, the intensity and spread of the monsoon showers will be strong. The peak of weather activity is likely tomorrow and will weaken thereafter. Most of the weather activity will occur during the evening and night. The depression is likely to move north or northeast after crossing the coast. The system will weaken as well. So, the scale and strength of weather activity will decrease and reduce substantially from 24th September onwards. A broad clearance is expected anytime on 26th September and later.
