Mumbai rains

The first week of August has been unsatisfactory for Mumbai as the city has not been able to record very good rains till date in the month. Though light spells have been occurring over the city, heavy spells have remained in the hiding from almost a fortnight now and it was on July 22 that the state capital recorded 28 mm of rains.

The reason for this almost 15-day long drizzling days in Mumbai can be attributed to the off-shore trough which continues to run along the West Coast from Konkan and Goa region to the Kerala coast. Due to this, the moisture incursion has increased and so did the cloud formation resulting in light spells. Though due to the presence of any active weather system, heavy rains have not occurred.

In the last 24 hours also, light to moderate rains have occurred in the capital of Maharashtra. Within the span of 08:30 am on Monday, Santa Cruz Observatory recorded 22 mm of rains, while no rains have been recorded by the Colaba Observatory during the same time frame.

At present, the off shore trough running along the West Coast has once again become active and thus has activated the Monsoon Surge as well. Due to this, light to moderate rains is expected to continue in the city of dreams for another 2-3 days. Thereafter, between August 11-13, rains are likely to intensify further.
