Key Takeaways:

  • Delhi has already recorded 31.6°C this February and is set to cross 30°C again.
  • Temperatures may breach 31.6°C between 26–28 Feb 2026.
  • Strong surface winds may prevent temperatures from touching 33°C.

As on expected lines, Delhi had a warm weekend and rising trend of mercury. Safdarjung recorded a day maximum of 29.7°C yesterday, about 4°C above the normal. Most other locations in Delhi/NCR also had similar records. Further rise of temperature is expected, and more so around the approaching weekend.

The capital has recorded highest of 31.6°C so far, on 16th Feb 2026. Earlier, in the last two decades, the city had exceeded 33°C twice: 33.2°C on 25th Feb 2021 and 33.6°C on 20th Feb 2023. The highest ever temperature in Feb was 34.1°C recorded on 25th Feb 2006. The highest for the month gets invariably recorded during the last few days of the month. This could be true even for this month when the mercury is expected to breach the earlier high of 31.6°C, anytime between 26th and 28th Feb 2026. Yet, the highest for the month may stop short of 33°C, due to strong surface winds likely for the remaining days of the month.

There is no active western disturbance likely over the mountains for the next one week. The plains will also remain evasive to any significant weather activity. Plenty of sunshine is expected over the next one week or even more. The mercury will be on the rise, albeit incremental, in the remaining days of the month. Today, it will cross the 30°C mark comfortably and may reach closer to 31°C. Accumulation of heat on a regular basis will lead to rising temperatures till the weekend.

Surface winds are also likely to become stronger, more so, from tomorrow onwards. Persistent strong winds in the remaining days will marginally suppress shooting of day temperatures. But, this will be a strong indication and confirmation of the change over to Pre-Monsoon. This also, could be the earliest transition to the hotter days ahead, during this season.
