Monsoon 2016 enters West Bengal with a bang

west bengal rainsTheSouthwest Monsoonhas entered West Bengal. The entire state has been lashed by very heavy showers during last 24 hours.

Monsoon 2016 has further advanced into remaining parts of eastcentral Bay of Bengal, some more parts of westcentral Bay of Bengal, some parts of northwest Bay of Bengal, entire northeast Bay of Bengal and Northeast India. It has also covered some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is now passing through Gangtok. Conditions are favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some parts of Odisha, GangeticWest Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar during next 4 to 5 days.

There is a cyclonic circulation over Bihar and adjoining areas. A trough is extending from the system up to North Bay of Bengal across the Gangetic plains. This is responsible for heavy to very heavy showers in the state.

The Gangetic plains have also received good showers withMidnaporereceiving 85.5 mm,Durgapur64 mm,Asansol61 mm, Bankura 58 mm, Mankar 46 mm, Panagarh 34 mm and Contai 32.2 mm.

The Diamond Harbour region in the capital cityKolkatareceived 52 mm of rainfall.

A cyclonic circulation is brewing up over the Bay of Bengal and could come up anytime over Coastal Odisha and adjoining Bay. This will continue to bring good rains over West Bengal during next couple of days.
