Delhi has witnessed a warmer week in October 2026. The base station Safdarjung recorded day maximum temperatures of 36°C or more between 2nd and 6th October 2026. The mercury crossed 37°C on 3rd October. This is only the second time in the last ten years that Safdarjung has recorded a day high of 37°C or more in October. Yesterday, there was a marginal drop, and the observatory recorded a maximum of 35.7°C, still above normal by about 2°C. The mercury is likely to drop, and the temperature is expected to reach 32°C (±1°C) during the remaining days of the week. Light rainfall is also likely on the weekend, 10th and 11th October 2026.

A cyclonic circulation is marked over North Pakistan and the border areas of Punjab. An east-west trough is extending from the circulation to the foothills of Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh. The trough is running north of Delhi, albeit not very far. The wind pattern has changed to easterly in the lower levels. A western disturbance, as an upper-air system, is likely to approach the Jammu and Kashmir region in the late hours tomorrow. The system will push the trough southward and bring it closer to the capital city.

The close proximity of the trough will favour light rain and showers on the weekend. The day temperatures will remain suppressed and are likely to hover in the low 30s. Under the combined influence of the western disturbance and the trough, the wet spell may even extend to the start of next week as well. The day temperatures, as such, start easing during the second half of October. The maximum temperature starts with a pentad normal of 32°C and reaches about 30°C at the fag end of the month. Combined with a western disturbance, if any, the mercury may plunge further to the high 20s in the closing days of the month.
