Delhi warm and dry weather

Heatwave conditions has finally gripped Delhi-NCR, with the city recording season’s highest day temperature on Tuesday. The Palam observatory recorded maximum temperature at 46°C, that was six degrees above normal.

Safdarjung observatory was not much behind and recorded day temperature at 44°C. Similarly, observatories at Ayanagar and Ridge also recorded day maximums at 44.7°C and 44.3°C, respectively.

Since last many years we have been seeing that towards the end of May, Palam records its maximum temperature close to 46°C, whereas, the Safdarjung observatory remains in the mid-40s. Last year, the highest temperature recorded for Palam Observatory was 46.4°C.

Furthermore, for the next 5-6 days, no relief is expected at least for the next three to four days. The rise in day maximums can be attributed to hot northwesterly winds and clear sky conditions. Besides this, no weather system is likely to form over and around the city.

Thus, with the uninterrupted flow of these winds, we expect dry and hot weather conditions to prevail over entire Delhi and nearby areas of Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad.

In fact, temperatures are expected to increase even further and may settle above 45°C. However, we are in pre-Monsoon season and thus isolated spell of dust storm and thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, but chances are very rare.

And, as we all know, these pre-Monsoon activities usually occur during the latter part of the day. Although, these activities might bring some temporary relief but will not have any impact over weather in Delhi.

These dry and hot weather conditions are expected to persist till May 28, which would bring some relief thereafter.
