Monsoon rains to lash Northeast India, only pocket of India to record heavy rains

September 11, 2018 7:52 PM |

Rain in Northeast IndiaThis Monsoon season, Northeast India has given worst performance, making it the most rain deficient pocket of the country. According to Skymet Weather, northeastern region pours during the three-month long Southwest Monsoon season and is one of the major contributors in the countrywide cumulative rainfall.

Rains of heavy intensity remained far and few from the region. Right from the beginning month of June till now, Northeast India struggled with deficit rains.

However, weather conditions are now changing, with some heavy rains likely to make an appearance. As per weathermen, when the rains are going subdued over rest of the country, Northeast India is likely to witness a wet spell.

The axis of Monsoon trough is presently running along the foothills, particularly eastern arm of the trough which is extending through Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

Thus, weather conditions are now conducive for heavy rains over northeastern states, particularly over Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya. In fact, heavy rains have already lashed parts of the region during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, out of the remaining four states, Nagaland would see more rains as compared to Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

This fresh spell of moderate to heavy rains is likely to continue for another two days. Not only this, it will be the only pocket of the country to record rains.

Thereafter, weather would go dry for brief period and return again after a span of 4-5 days.
