Presently, East Uttar Pradesh is rain surplus by 21% while West Uttar Pradesh is now in normal category and is deficit by 14% (+/- 19 considered normal). This is because in the last week or so heavy rains have lashed many parts of East and Central Uttar Pradesh, while dry conditions have prevailed in the western region.
However, rainfall has now increased over the western parts of Uttar Pradesh as well due to the Monsoon Trough shifting southward. Places like Moradabad, Shahjahanpur, Aligarh, and Bulandshahar have been recording good rains.
Meanwhile, light scattered rain and thundershowers will be observed in eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh like Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, and Maharajganj while moderate rain with one or two heavy spells can be recorded in the western and central parts of Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
Thereafter, scattered light rains with one or two moderate spells will occur over many parts of Uttar Pradesh until July 18. Post this, rain activities will start receding from most parts of the state. However, from July 21 onward, the Monsoon Trough will once again start shifting toward the foothills of the Himalayas leading to an increase in rainfall activities over the foothills of Uttar Pradesh. Between July 21 and July 22, scattered light rains will also be seen over the remaining parts of the state. Sadly, the southern districts adjacent to Madhya Pradesh like Banda, Prayagraj, Jhansi, and Mirzapur will get to see only light rains.
Thus, we can say that intermittent Monsoon rain and thundershowers will continue in the state throughout this week.
