Year 2022 has begun on a snowy note for the hills of North India and in the coming days, more such occurrences are in line for the region. In fact, a long spell of rain and snow has begun and will lash the region for at least another week.

A Western Disturbance is already over the Western Himalayas and is expected to continue giving good rain and snow over all the four hilly areas including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. These activities are expected to continue for the next couple of days.

Thereafter, another Western Disturbance, much stronger than the current one will approach the Western Himalayas around January 6, dumping heavy rain and snow over the entire hilly region of North India. January 8 is expected to be a severe snowfall day for the hills with the possibility of road blockages as well as fear of avalanches over the hilly states.

This is the first time this season that the hilly regions will be simultaneously receiving heavy rain and snow. For tourists planning to visit, a word of caution as the snowfall may cause many hindrances in travel plans.
