As predicted, a fresh low pressure area has formed today over Northwest Bay of Bengal (BoB). Under the influence of cyclonic circulation, persisting over that area for the past 48 hours, the 2nd low pressure area of July and the third one of the season has surfaced over BoB. It is likely to become more marked and move inland in the next 24 hours. The weather system is going to pull down the monsoon trough and then move along with it over the next three days. Low pressure will travel across Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
The southern peripherals of the system will increase the weather activity over Maharashtra and Gujarat. By 25th July, the low pressure will weaken over East Rajasthan and its remnants will shift northward to impact Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and some pockets of Haryana and Punjab. In the meantime, another low is expected to form over BoB and their combined influence will revive the monsoon activity all along the Indo Gangetic plains between 27thand 31st July.
Heavy to very heavy rains are expected today and tomorrow over Odisha, South Gangetic West Bengal, South Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Also, a broad convergence zone has formed between westerly winds from the Arabian Sea and easterly stream from BoB. Confluence of these two wind flows will cause heavy to very heavy rains over East Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Vidarbha and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. This low pressure area will also accentuate the westerly stream across the West Coast. Heavy rains are likely over the next 48-72 hours over Konkan (including Mumbai), Goa and Coastal Karnataka.
Flooding rains are expected over northern parts of Telangana and neighboring Vidarbha. Incessant rains may even spill over to southern parts of East Madhya Pradesh. This weather activity will be accompanied with severe thunderstorm, lightning strikes and squally weather. Inundation and waterlogging of low lying areas along with felling of trees in some pockets may disrupt connectivity. For Maharashtra and Telangana, the weather conditions will improve 25th July onward.
