Parts of Himachal Pradesh as well as Uttarakhand have seen a reduction in rains but have been receiving on and off light to moderate rains for the last one week or so. Since these rains have not been very heavy, there has not been an episode of severe mudslides or landslides. In fact, the foothills of Punjab and Haryana have also seen some showers in the past 24 hours.
In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Dharamsala recorded 10 mm of rains, Patiala saw 26 mm of rains, Amritsar 6 mm, Shimla 13 mm, Ludhiana 6 mm, Mandi 1 mm, and Una 1 mm.
Now, as the axis of the Monsoon trough is once again shifting towards the foothills of the Himalayas, the intensity of rains is once again expected to increase over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, particularly the lower reaches of these areas leading to landslides and mudslides. These showers are expected to be seen for the next four to five days. In fact, during these days, travelling to the hills should be avoided and is likely to be risky.
As the axis of Monsoon trough will shift, weather of Northern Plains will once again go dry. However, the foothills of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh will see some good rainfall activities for the next 4-5 days.
