Delhiites woke up to yet another cloudy day today, accompanied by good rains that brought a smile to the face of its residents. In the wake of these cheerful showers, the maximum temperatures of Delhi also dipped by a good 4 degrees, settling near 28 degree Celsius as of today at around 9 am from 32 degrees Celsius during the same time yesterday.

These rains proved to be instrumental in giving huge relief from the ongoing sultry weather that has been bothering the people of Delhi and NCR for the last couple of days.

The reason for these spells as per Skymet Weather, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing via North Madhya Pradesh. In addition to this, the low-pressure area is also running southeast of Delhi.

Due to the vicinity of these weather systems, the rain intensity is expected to increase further over Delhi and NCR in the next 24 hours. Thus, the city and its surrounding Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad may record some light to moderate with isolated heavy spells for the next 24 hours.

Thereafter, the rains may reduce but on and off rains are likely to continue until the month end over Delhi and NCR. The temperatures may also continue to settle in upper 20’s or lower 30’s.

In fact, Delhi rains have been playing the game of hide and seek for the last many days with some heavy spells in short intervals. July 22 was the last day when the city recorded heavy Monsoon showers to the tune of 70 mm.

However, it is due to the patchy nature of these showers that Delhi is at present experiencing the rainfall deficiency at 13 percent which is otherwise considered as normal. Both the observatory of Delhi, namely Safdarjung and Palam have surpassed their monthly mean.

Delhi’s Safdarjung Observatory has achieved its average monthly normal of 187.3 mm by recording 203.9 mm rains. Palam Observatory has surpassed its monthly mean of 174.4 mm by recording a total of 175.9 mm of rains.

Moreover, with some good rains being forecasted on cards for the city, it is expected that Delhi would be able to run ahead of its monthly target by a good number.
