Delhi Kick-Starts March On Rainy Note, Mercury Will Rise Too

February 28, 2024 11:57 AM |

The national capital Delhi looks set to commence March on a rainy note. Showers are expected on 2 days and very little remnant effect on the third day.  A twist in the weather conditions, and more mercury fluctuations, are likely around the weekend. Winter chill, albeit mild, may stay a little longer, suppressing the rising trend of temperatures.

The current week started on a dry note for Delhi. Tentative change in the wind pattern and absence of clouds will raise the day and night temperatures over the next 2 days. The maximum temperature may climb to about 28°C and the minimum may rise to low teens, as it happened earlier, in the third week of February. Soon after these changes, rains are expected to follow, altering the temperature profile, once again.

An active western disturbance is approaching Western Himalayas, tomorrow, to start the activity with hills. The induced cyclonic circulation of this system will move over the northern plains with a lag of 24 hours. The change in the wind pattern will precede the clouds and rains. Spell of winter showers can be expected on 01st and 02nd March, with the remnant effect on 03rd March.

Maximum temperature in the high 20’s and the minimum in low teens are likely between 28th Feb and 03rd March.  The intensity and spread of rain and thundershowers will be more on 01st and 02nd March. Strokes of lightning and thunder could accompany the gusty winds. The capital city remains on the far fringes of the main system. However, hailstorm activity in some pockets can not be ruled out.

As per the normal profile, maximum and minimum temperatures, both will rise in March. Mercury level invariably touches the mid-30s and minimum temperature hovers in the mid-teens, by the end of March. Being a transition month, from winter to spring, the average rainfall drops to about 17mm during the month. The first half of the month still remains pleasant, before the warm days start catching up with temperature frequently breaching the 30°C mark.
