Storm Jake to cause power cuts and travel disruptions across UK and Ireland

uk stormA series of storms will bring rain and strong winds to the UK on Friday. The biggest of the series of storms will be storm Jake that will threaten parts of UK with winds strong enough to cause travel disruptions. The strongest winds will hit Wales and Southern England on Wednesday. Wind gusts of more than 65 kmph is expected across Greater London, but stronger winds will be experienced further west.

The region from southwest England to Northern Ireland will experience the strongest gusts in excess of 80 kmph.Cornwall and Pembrokeshire is likely to face the fiercest winds with isolated gusts of more than 95 kmph on Wednesday afternoon. These winds will be strong enough to cause widespread travel disruptions, power cuts and downed trees.

Coastal flooding in and around Cornwall is also possible because of high seas and strong winds.

In Ireland, the strongest winds will last for much of Wednesday and will generally be between 80 kmph and 95 kmph with isolated gusts of upto 110 kmph. Light snow accumulation of upto two inches is possible across the higher terrains.

In Scotland especially across the northern and western parts, wind gusts of close to 80 kmph is possible on Wednesday afternoon.

Across the UK widespread showers are expected on Wednesday, although there will be some dry periods during the day. Wintry showers are expected across the higher elevations on Wednesday evening with upto four inches of snowfall expected.

However, this stormy weather will not end after storm Jake, Thursday will feature less stormy conditions across the region. There will be another storm which will enhance rainfall and will bring back gusty winds on Friday.
