New Delhi, Friday. August 10, A long drive in the rain can be adventurous but it is also a scary thing and in the night, it can get even worse. It is difficult to see out of the windshields and the other vehicle lights seem to make it worse. Here are some tips to remain vigilant while going for a long drive while it's raining.
1. Keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times – Don't leave your steering even for a moment,
2. Keep all distractions off and away from you - Cell phones or even the radio should be kept away from the person on the driver seat,
3. Use headlights - Even if you are driving in a broad daylight keep headlights on as it helps when it is raining,
4. Keep a minimum of a good five car length from the car in front of you - To avoid any eventuality always maintain a certain distance from the vehicle ahead,
5. Drive at or below the speed limit to the extent that you are comfortable with – look at the intensity of the rain and adjust the speed accordingly,
6. Avoid flooded roads – Try to stay away from standing or flowing water on the road, also water flow into the engine of a car can cause the engine to stall,
7. Turn on the defroster if the windshield begins to fog - Air conditioned air usually clears the inside of the windshield faster than non-air conditioned,
8. Be aware that brakes can be affected by water. Wet drum type brakes are especially prone to decrease stopping power after driving through deep water,
9. Watch for splashing from potholes and pools of water - Look for clogged storm drainage and low areas of pavement so that you can position your car while remaining in your own lane,
10. Use a rain repellent product on side windows and mirrors to clear standing raindrops
