Yet Another Wet Spell For Plains Of North India, Extreme Heat Unlikely

March 26, 2024 3:52 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Plains of North India are likely to have another spell of rain and thundershowers. Punjab, Haryana, North & East Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh are expected to witness rain and showers, albeit light but prolonged spells. Weather activity may commence with parts of West Rajasthan tonight and travel further to other parts. Activity over the plains is an extension from the mountains of north India which are getting smashed, more intensely and for an extended duration, as well.

Western disturbance has arrived over the Western Himalayas as an upper-air weather system. Across the border, there is a feeble cyclonic circulation over West Rajasthan and border areas. An east–west trough from the system extends up to Haryana and Delhi region. Another western disturbance is arriving on 29th Mar, aided by secondary circulation, strengthening the setup and expanding the sphere of activity.

Mild weather activity is expected over North & West Rajasthan and North Punjab, today and tomorrow. The spread and intensity will increase for the subsequent 3 days. Rain and thundershowers are likely over Parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh. Gusty winds and isolated hailstorms can not be ruled out at one or two places, between the 28th and 30th of March.

Weather activity for the next 4-6 days, more pronounced over the hills than the plains, is expected over North India. This will suppress any likely rise in temperatures. As such, any spike of mercury over northern parts is yet to be seen. Temperatures remain confined to the low 30’s over Punjab Haryana and Rajasthan, excluding farther and border areas of Haryana and Rajasthan. Therefore, the ongoing spell of clouds, winds and rain will continue to shield the northern plains from the excruciating heat, right till the month's end. Better days may even prevail at the start of next month as well.
