Yet Another Spell Of Unseasonal Weather - Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal Main Recipient

February 24, 2022 11:00 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Another round of unseasonal weather is coming up for the eastern states shortly. Earlier, this region witnessed rain and thundershowers, also extending to Odisha during last week. Ongoing trail of western disturbances moving along the foothills and Indo Gangetic plains are frequently shifting the seasonal anticyclone from the western parts to the Bay of Bengal. The drift of this semi-permanent feature during winter months is generating confluence between moist winds from the Bay of Bengal and dry continental airmass over central parts.

Presently, a western disturbance is impacting northern mountains and its offshoot circulation influencing the foothills of Punjab and Haryana.  The eastward shift of this duo will displace the convergence zone far to the central region and eastern states.

An elongated trough, extending from East Madhya Pradesh to West Bengal, across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar will induce an unseasonal weather activity over these subdivisions between 24thFeb and 26th Feb.

Weather activity in terms of rain and thundershowers, with possible hailstorms at isolated places, is expected to commence on 24thFeb touching parts of East Madhya Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh and the western half of Jharkhand. On  25thFeb, this will expand further, both in terms of space and intensity, to cover Bihar and West Bengal.

The last day of this spell will find northern parts of Odisha also, getting lashed by convective thunderstorms and showers. Rourkela, Baripada, Keonjhargarh, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur will be more vulnerable parts of interior Odisha than the coastal belt. These parts will be relieved from 26thFeb onward of any significant weather activity. However, the weather belt will shift to Vidarbha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha for the subsequent 3 days, from 27thFeb to 01stMar.
