Withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon had commenced almost on time. But then it became sluggish and stagnated for almost 20 days after withdrawing from West Rajasthan and some parts of Punjab and Haryana.
However, the first week of October has seen a speedy withdrawal from the eastern part of the country. While from the western side there has been marginal withdrawal. In the eastern side the Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, parts of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and entire Madhya Pradesh. And from the western side it has withdrawn from most parts of Gujarat.
The withdrawal line of Southwest Monsoon currently passes through Forbesganj, Ranchi, Raipur, Nagpur, Jalgaon and Veraval.
The withdrawal of Monsoon from Maharashtra and some parts of Odisha and West Bengal is behind schedule. The system (Low Pressure Area) in the Bay of Bengal is restricting monsoon withdrawal from East and Northeast India.
The low pressure area is likely to sustain for three days in the Bay of Bengal and give rain over Odisha, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Northeast India. Once the system clears off, withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon will begin from these regions.
However, it will take a few days (by the middle of the month) for the withdrawal to establish and give way for the onset of Northeast Monsoon.
