With just three days left for Southwest Monsoon 2017 to end officially, it is quite surprising that the weather conditions are not indicating the same.
Usually the withdrawal of Monsoon commences during the first week of September, initially from Rajasthan and Gujarat and later on from other parts of the country. But it is September 27 today and nothing of this sought has happened till now.

“This year, withdrawal of Monsoon has delayed considerably. One after another cyclonic circulation had been developing over Odisha coast that further moved towards Central India and sometimes even up to Southeast Rajasthan and Gujarat. These systems had kept Monsoon active over the region,” said Mahesh Palawat, Vice President- Meteorology, Skymet Weather.
Moreover, on and off cyclonic circulation also persisted over Southwest Rajasthan and adjoining South Pakistan, due to which flow of southwesterly winds continued over many parts of Rajasthan and nearby areas.
However, according to meteorologists, weather conditions have now become favourable for Monsoon to start receding from the Indian region any time soon. As per weathermen, all the weather conditions required for withdrawal of Monsoon have now met.
According to the rule book, conditions required for the commencement of Monsoon withdrawal are continues dry spell over West Rajasthan for at least five days, change in wind direction from southwesterly to dry northwesterly and significant reduction in humidity.
As per weathermen, formation of anti-cyclonic circulation is also already being seen over Rajasthan, which will not allow southeasterly winds to reach northwestern plains. With this, weather will now go completely dry over Northwest India. Hence, withdrawal of Monsoon will commence any time now.
And once it begins, we expect it to recede rapidly because we do not foresee development of any weather system over Northwest and Central parts of the country in the near future.
Initially will be from West Rajasthan and Kutch region, thereafter from the parts of Haryana, Punjab and East Rajasthan.
