Rain in RajasthanThe time has come for Southwest Monsoon 2017 to begin its return journey. According to Skymet Weather, weather conditions are becoming favourable for commencement of withdrawal of Monsoon surge from West Rajasthan.

The normal date of the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from India is September 1. Weathermen predict that the Monsoon will start retreating anytime in the next 24 to 48 hours.

“An anti-cyclone is likely to form over Rajasthan, which would restrict the movement of any weather system from central and eastern parts of country towards Rajasthan,” said Mahesh Palawat, Chief Meteorologist, Skymet Weather.

In wake of this, winds will also change the direction and start blowing from northwest. These winds will be relatively drier in nature. Continuous flow of dry winds would then lead to clear sky and bright sunshine and the chances of rain will become very less over West Rajasthan.

Thereafter by September 15, Monsoon usually further withdraws from parts western parts of Punjab and Haryana along with some parts of Kutch region of Gujarat.

This year, we expect timely withdrawal from Punjab and Haryana. However, it may get delayed in Gujarat as weather models are indicating scattered showers between September 12-15 over the region.

In all this process, rains will also reduce over Delhi-NCR. Though withdrawal of Monsoon will not commence from Delhi anytime soon but the effect of anti-cyclone will be felt in terms of reduced rainfall.

Humidity will also reduce significantly, leading to pleasant evenings and mornings over the national capital.
