The weather in East India has almost been dry for the last many days. The maximum temperature of parts of Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal are crossing 40 degrees. The onset of monsoon is already delayed over Kerala.
Further progress of the monsoon seems to be slow over the Interior Peninsula and East India. A low-pressure area will be developing over the Southeast Arabian Sea which will gradually intensify into a depression and further into a cyclone. Moisture concentration will be around the weather system and the normal flow of southwesterly winds over the Indian mainland will be restricted.
We do not expect any significant weather activity over East India for at least the next week. Clear skies, right sunshine, and dry weather will be responsible for a further rise in temperatures leading to heat waves in isolated pockets of East India.
Monsoon usually arrives over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal by June 10th and covers East Bihar, East Jharkhand and most parts of Odisha by June 15. But this year, conditions are not conducive for the timely arrival of monsoon over East India. Winds will start changing and will be blowing from the East and Southeast direction by the second week of June leading to an increase in discomfort.
