Delhi woke up with cloudy sky and intense thunderstorm activities on Sunday morning. The weather remained cloudy with patchy thundershower until evening. Isolated pockets of Delhi witnessed strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph.
Until now Delhi has received 29.5 mm rain against the normal of 13 mm. On Sunday Delhi recorded a third-lowest maximum of the month that is 31.4 degrees which were 7 degrees below normal and the minimum was 5 degrees below normal. It is rare for Delhi to witness such a low maximum during the last week of April.
There were various weather parameters responsible for these intense thundershowers such as western disturbance over north Pakistan, cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Haryana, low level Easterly humid winds from the Bay of Bengal, and moisture feed from the Arabian Sea.
Today also we can expect some rain and thundershower activities over Delhi NCR mostly in the evening. As the weather activities will commence late, therefore, the maximum temperature will rise and may reach to mid-thirties today. The remaining days of April will also witness below-average temperatures. Another spell of rain and thunderstorm is possible on April 30 over Delhi NCR.
This is turning out to be the second coldest April for Delhi during the decade after 2012.
