During the last 24 hours, Santacruz observatory of Mumbai recorded 31 mm rain and Colaba observatory recorded 17 mm of rain. Conditions are now favorable over Mumbai and suburbs for rain intensity to increase further.
A cyclonic circulation is over Gujarat, a low-pressure area will form over the Bay of Bengal, and an east to west shear zone is running along the latitude 18 degrees north between 5.8 and 7.6 km above mean sea level.
These weather parameters will increase the rain activities over North Konkan & Goa and Gujarat as well as over Mumbai and suburbs.
We do not expect extremely heavy downpour over Mumbai and suburbs which may lead to severe flood or flash floods over the city. Moderate showers with few heavy spells cannot be ruled out over Mumbai and suburbs which may lead to waterlogging and flash flood in isolated pockets.
These on and off rain activities are expected to continue until August 17 over Mumbai and suburbs. For this week or so, the weather of Mumbai will remain pleasant due to intermittent showers and cloudy to overcast sky conditions.
The lake areas of Mumbai may also receive some spells of rain which will help in restoring the water levels.
