Delhi rains in the first half of the year were in the deficit zone. The only month to have good rains during this time was May. In fact, even during the first Monsoon month, i.e. June, the city continued to see deficit rains due to the late arrival of Monsoon, which only made an appearance on July 13.

However, the month of July compensated for the entire first half. The city saw 507.2 mm against 187.3 mm, which is close to three times of the rainfall Delhi had received. The city saw 16 rainy days and 3 heavy rain days in July. In fact, Delhi has even exceeded its yearly rainfall which stands at 779 mm.

If we talk about the previous years, in 2019, Delhi had only seen 619 mm, and it saw 765.4 mm in 2020. This year, Delhi so far has already seen 781 mm of rains surpassing the annual rainfall for the national capital in the beginning of August itself.

Now, talking about the forecast for Delhi, on and off rains are expected over the city. These showers may be moderate on August 6 and 7. Otherwise, for the next few days, on and off rains may be seen. The possibility of slightly heavier rains cannot be ruled out.

The reason for these rains is the low pressure area over Rajasthan is persisting and is nearly stationary, Delhi is in close proximity with the system. After 48 hours, the system will shift northeastwards which is closer to parts of West Uttar Pradesh and it will also shift the Monsoon trough. The trough at present is lying a little south of Delhi, but around August 6, the trough will pass through Delhi, resulting in heavier rains over the city.
