The steel city of India has been witnessing on and off Pre-Monsoon showers for the past few days. Barring a day or two, the steel city of India has recorded a few good spells of rainfall. In fact, heavy rainfall was also witnessed over the city on May 16 with a whopping 43 mm of rain.
Yesterday was no different and after taking a day’s break,Jamshedpurrains were back again with a bang. Heavy rains did lash Mini Bombay giving residents a taste of what’s in store when Monsoon makes an onset over the city.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, the city recorded a whopping 50.8 mm of rainfall. These rains are the highest in the last ten years for the month of May. Last year on May 11 was when the city had recorded 43.2 mm of rain. However, it’s all time rain record for may stands at a whopping 160 mm witnessed on May 10, 1949.
These weather conditions have been attributed to the presence of a cyclonic circulation see over the Odisha region. A trough was also extending from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to Gangetic West Bengal. Due to these systems, moisture incursion had increased over the region resulting in good rains.
As per weathermen, on and off rains will continue over Jamshedpur and its adjoining areas.
