Nagpur rains which had been heavy during the last 24 hours have become heftier in the past few hours. It seems like the skies have opened up pouring torrential rainfall over the city. In fact, in a span of six hours from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, Nagpur has recorded a whopping 263 mm of rainfall.

In the first three hours from 8:30 to 11:30 am, the city had recorded a whopping 163 mm of rains. Soon after, in another three hours, Nagpur recorded 100 mm more rains. This rainy spell could be the heaviest one across India this Monsoon season.

Skymet has several Automatic Weather Stations installed in Nagpur wherein since 8:30 am, Dongargaon saw 344 mm of rain, Songaon 261 mm, Ruikheri 330 mm, Godhani 125 mm, and Bajargaon 143 mm.

Due to hefty rains, the Monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly was adjourned for about an hour as the electricity supply had to be turned off since the switching centre that provides electricity to the Vidhan Bhawan was flooded.

Several areas of the city have also been waterlogged leading to flooding conditions in many parts. As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, more rains are in the offing which will further aggravate the situation.

Until today in July, Nagpur has already recorded a whopping 351.6 mm of rains which is way past its monthly rains that stands at 287.8 mm. In fact, for another six hours, the city may record another 100 millimeter of rains thereby surpassing all rain records of July. The highest 24-hour rain record stands at 304 mm which was recorded on July 12, 1994.

With such heavy rains over the city, residents are in for major trouble in terms of disruption of power, communication along with immense traffic chaos. Road, rail, and air traffic will be heavily disrupted leading to an emergency like situation. In fact, this would even hamper the relief operations.
