The city of Rajkot has had its fair share of heavy rains during the fag end of July. In fact, 216 mm of rains on July 30 had paralyzed the city. Thereafter, heavy rains of 81 mm had once again lashed the city on August 3.
However, thereafter, rains took a complete backseat and the city remained dry for a few days. Nevertheless, rains in Rajkot once again picked up pace yesterday. Rains in Ahmedabad also were also heavy.
Moreover, in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, the city of Rajkot observed a whopping 197 mm of rainfall. These rains have been attributed to the then depression which was over Gujarat, the system has however now moved towards Rajasthan.
With this, Rajkot has observed 200.6 mm of rains in the month of August, which means that Rajkot has surpassed its monthly mean. The monthly mean for Rajkot is 165.3 mm of rainfall.
In fact, the government has ordered schools to remain closed today in view of heavy rains. Water logging and localized flooding have been seen in many parts of the city throwing life out of gear. Thus, government and private schools will remain closed in Lodhika, Vinchhiya, Padadhari , Gondal, Kotda and Jasdan talukas of Rajkot.
Also, Western Railways has said that train movement from Rajkot's Padadhari has been halted due to flooding on tracks.
Now, rains will witness a reduction as the system has moved away and is over Rajasthan. Thus relief is in sight for the state.
