The month of July has been a rainy one for the city of Mumbai with three-digit rains also making an appearance thrice this time. Moreover, in just the first few days of July, Mumbai had already surpassed its July normal of 840.7 mm.
In fact, during the last weekend also, Mumbai Rains took a mammoth turn with the city witnessing a whopping 219 mm of rainfall in 24 hours resulting in water logging in many areas. In fact, due to very heavy rains, Mahalaxmi Express remained stuck at Badlapur overnight and it took the NDRF and the Indian Navy to rescue the 700 stranded passengers.
However, yesterday was a mellowed down day with rains being light only wherein Santa Cruz only recorded 0.5 mm of rains.
Talking about July rain figures, so far, until July 29, the Santa Cruz observatory has witnessed 1359.7 mm of rains which is more than 500 mm of rains than normal. In fact, with four digit rains this month, July 2019 rains have been the second highest ever with the highest being 1468.5 mm recorded in July 2014.
Now, rains will remain on the moderate side for the next few days with around 20-30 mm rains expected and since very hefty showers are not likely it does not look like that the city will be able to surpass the all-time record.
