Winters to tighten grip over Northwest India as mercury to plunge further

December 13, 2018 2:58 PM | Skymet Weather Team

During the last 24, light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells occurred over many parts of Punjab. In fact, scattered light rains were also observed over parts of Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan.

These rains occurred in association with the Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation over the plains of Northwest India.

The Western Disturbance is now  moving away eastwards and cold winds from north have already commenced over most parts of the northwestern plains, leading to significant drop in minimum temperatures.

In fact, the night temperatures over many places such as Churu, Hisar, Amritsar, Narnaul, agar, Patiala and Ludhiana have already dropped by 3˚C to 5˚C.

These cold winds blowing straight from ice caped Himalayas will continue over these areas for the next few days. Therefore, we expect further drop in night temperatures over entire Northwest India. Day temperatures will also fall gradually. Due to clear sky there will be pleasant sunshine, but wind chill will be there.

Delhi Pollution has also decreased. In fact, in wake of dry winds, we expect that it may improve further. So finally, we can say that winters have arrived as most places are receiving day temperatures between 16˚C to 21˚C.
