Since the beginning of October, successive Western Disturbances have been approaching Western Himalayas. However, being feeble in nature, they only gave scattered rains over Jammu and Kashmir and parts of Himachal Pradesh. In fact, weather of Uttarakhand has remained almost dry.
At present also, a fresh Western Disturbance can be seen approaching Jammu and Kashmir which might bring scattered light rains over Jammu & Kashmir, starting today.
Moreover, the intensity and spread of these rains will increase around November 1 and 2 over Jammu and Kashmir while, some parts of Himachal Pradesh will also receive light to moderate rains. On the other hand, Uttarakhand will receive isolated light rain activities only.
With the system prevailing, we expect snowfall over some parts of Jammu and Kashmir and upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh. This would be the first good snowfall of the season.
However, by November 4, this Western Disturbance will move away towards eastwards and normal flow of northerly winds will commence over Punjab & Haryana.
The icy cold rains over hills may drop day and night temperatures over parts of Punjab and Haryana but this episode will be short lived as another Western Disturbance will set in to obstruct the flow of these cool winds.
However, this Western Disturbance will not be as active as the present one and therefore the flow of rains will be light.
Slowly and steadily, Northwest India is approaching towards the Winter season. While both maximum and minimum temperatures have also witnessed significant drop in both maximum and minimum temperatures, plains of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi have also started witnessing cool and pleasant nights and comfortable days. And, with frequency and intensity of Western Disturbances increasing in the days to come, Winters would make onset soon.
