Delhi has been experiencing unusually high mercury levels in the night and early morning. Typical winter chill continues to stay away with minimum temperatures hovering in the high teens, all through these eleven days of November 2024. The base station at Safdarjung recorded a low of 17.2°C, about a degree lower than yesterday. The mercury has been running consistently above the average value by 3°-5°C. There are large variations across the observatories of the national capital. For, Pitampura recorded a low of 21.1°, about 7°C above normal and Ridge dipped to 14°C, about 2°C below normal. Such aberrations are more because of local factors, distorting the true picture and therefore these extremes need to be discarded from the data.

October was the warmest on record for the national capital, since 1951. November looks no different and is on repeat track. The mean minimum temperature at Safdarjung between 01st and 11th November stands at 17.6°C, as against the pentad normal of 14°C for this period. This spell is even warmer than the earlier one in October. Whatever little drop has been there in the last 24 hours, is on account of seasonal progression and not attributable to any system influencing the weather conditions. Delhi has literally remained dry after the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon on 02nd October 2024.

There is nothing promising coming up for Delhi over the next 10 days or even longer. The month of November, as such, is the least rainiest month. Feeble upper air system as trough is passing across the northern mountains and may give light weather activity over the higher ranges. No active western disturbance, strong enough to influence weather in the plains, is likely. Even, the capital city will remain high and dry for the next 10 days. Minimal and small changes are expected in the night temperatures. Typical winter chill will remain in abeyance, defying the seasonal drop of temperatures, as well.
