Winter sets in as Delhi records coldest day of the season

Wait for winters have finally ended as Delhi records the coldest day of the season on December 12. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, icy cold northwesterly winds have been blowing over the national capital since Saturday morning.

In spite of clear sky and sunshine, day temperature continued to hover around 13°C till afternoon that is 10 degrees below the normal average temperature.

As per Skymet, cold day conditions are likely to prevail on entire Saturday and maximum temperature is not expected to go beyond 16°C.

When the day temperatures remain 16°C or below during the winter season, they can be called as cold day conditions.

In view of this, minimum temperatures that have been settling around 11.5°C till now, are also expected to drop and reach around 9°C by Sunday.

Visibility at Palam Airport Observatory had dropped to nil on Saturday morning between 6:30 am and 8:30 am. The situation became better as sun came out but visibility remained on the lower side at 700 meters at 1400 hours.

According to Skymet, similar weather conditions are likely to prevail on Sunday also. Delhiites, who have eagerly waiting for the wintery chill, will now have to brave chilly winds.
