Light to moderate rain and thundershower activities have lashed parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during the last 24 hours.

According to the data available with Skymet, Bilaspur has recorded 20 mm of rain, followed by Pendra Road 10.1 mm, Rajnandgaon 9.8 mm, Ambikapur 7.6 mm, Durg 6.4 mm, Chhindwara 3 mm and Rewa 2 mm in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday.

These rains can be attributed to the Confluence Zone that has developed over Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh due to the merging of northerly cold winds with the humid winds (from the Bay of Bengal).

As this convergence is expected to persist for some more time, many parts of East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh may observe good rains for another 24 hours. There are also chances of isolated intense spells coupled with hailstorm activities.

Under the influence of humid south-easterlies, the minimums of the duo states are expected to settle above normal. However, due to increased cloud cover and subsequent rainfall, the day temperatures may fall by a couple of degrees.

Back to back developments of the Confluence Zone has led to more than the usual rounds of untimely rain in East MP this winter.
