Winter rain likely over Delhi, Haryana, Punjab

Plains of North India are all set to witness second spell of winters rains during the next 24 hours. According to Skymet Weather, Punjab is likely to see light to moderate rains over many parts, while scattered showers are likely over Haryana.

Rains will start making appearance from late night hours of Saturday and will pick up pace by January 15. Weathermen predict the rainy spell to continue till January 16.

Weather over Delhi-NCR will remain mainly cloudy with chances of one or two short spells of rain and thundershowers over some parts on Monday.

These approaching rains can be attributed to the fresh Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab region.

These systems have also changed the weather pattern over the region. Cold and dry northwesterly winds are now replaced by relatively warm and humid southeasterlies.

These winds will now increase the moisture content in the atmosphere, leading to gradual increase in the minimum temperatures. As a result, cold wave conditions are likely to abate from most parts of the region barring few areas.

Not only this, fog will also make a comeback and shallow to moderate fog may occur over the areas of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi-NCR.
