Updated on Jan 23, 2018 02:45 PM: As reiterated by Skymet Weather, rains drenched several parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday afternoon. Neighbouring areas of Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad too saw some good showers. Though the city witnessed traces of rainfall during the early morning hours, but any good spell was not reported.

However, as the day progressed, intense clouding engulfed the city, almost leading to blackout. This was followed by thunderstorm and lighting and finally rains of varying intensity. Intensity of rains was mainly confined to light, but few places recorded moderate rains as well.

Not only this, these rains have also plunged the mercury to 14˚C during the noon hours, resulting in a cold day conditions. Moreover, yesterday the maximum temperature had settled at around 24˚C, which means a drop of 10 degrees has been observed.

According to weathermen, cold day conditions are presently prevailing over the national capital. These conditions are declared when the day temperatures are either 16˚C or below.

In fact, weather models are indicating that the clouding would persist throughout the day and thus, temperatures are not likely to increase now.

Further, weathermen forecast more spells of rain till today evening, but these spells would be short and sharp.

Chances of light hailstorm at isolated places also cannot be ruled out because height of convective cloud prevailing over Delhi-NCR is reaching more than 6 km over some parts of the city and freezing level is also around 3 km to 5 km.

Thereafter, weather will start clearing up by tonight as the affecting cyclonic circulation over Haryana and adjoining area would move away in an east direction.

As of now, on and off short spells are anticipated to continue until afternoon over the city and the nearby regions of Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. However, the intensity would continue to remain light in nature.

Thereafter, as the weather system is fast moving, the induced cyclonic circulation would gradually move eastwards resulting in dry weather over Delhi and NCR. However, partly cloudy to cloudy sky is likely to persist for the day.

Moreover, the weather is expected to clear up completely by tomorrow. In the wake of these rains, the minimum temperature had increased significantly over Delhi and NCR but after the passage of the Western Disturbance, dry and cold northerly winds from the mountains will once again commence thereby dropping the minimums by 3-4 degrees.
