Presently winter rain seems to be active in most parts of the country barring central and eastern regions. Various systems taking shape in different parts of the country are resulting in this phenomenon. Rain in the winter season for some means hot coffee and romantic a stroll in the breeze, while for others it symbolises bleak landscape and confinement within four walls. Nevertheless, whether we like it or not the gods are pouring it in.
As has been reiterated by Skymet, the Western Disturbance lying along longitude 60.0°E has affected weather in North India. Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand received widespread rain and snow. In the last 24 hours, Hisar and Ambala received 5 mm and 3 mm of rain, respectively.
Intermittent rain in Delhi will continue for the next two days and as the system shifts eastwards, the rain belt will extend to Punjab, Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh during the next 48 hours. In view of rain and clouds, the minimum temperatures may rise in several places including Patiala, Ambala, Chandigarh, Agra, Noida and Bareilly. The day temperatures will come down with cold conditions prevailing in Delhi and the northern plains. Lucknow and Kanpur may be spared by the present system which is not quite strong but definitely widespread.
Rain in West Coast
The upper air cyclonic circulation over south Rajasthan, Gujarat and adjoining Maharashtra region has given 3 mm of rain in Jaipur and 0.5 mm in Kota.
The upper air trough off the west coast from Gujarat to Lakshadweep area in lower levels has already given traces of rain in Mumbai and Nasik. Surat and Kozhikode also recorded 1 mm and 0.1 mm of rain, respectively in the last 24 hours. This slow and steady system will be quite extensive and bring rain in the coastal areas of Mumbai, Konkan and Goa for the next 2 to 3 days.
Rain in East Coast
Chennai received 0.4 mm of rain in view of another trough of low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal. This trough is likely to move westwards during the next 24 hours.
