The plains of northwest India are already experiencing single digit morning temperatures for the last few days and according to our forecast, the possibility of night temperatures going down further will increase by mid of December.
Temperatures in North India are below 10 degrees at many places. Hisar and Karnal in Haryana recorded a minimum of 6. 5 and 8 degrees respectively on Monday morning. These temperatures are almost close to the average temperature of the month. The average minimum temperature for Hisar and Karnal during December is 6.5 and 7.7 degrees respectively.
Amritsar in Punjab recorded a minimum temperature of 9.1 on Monday morning which is 4 notches above the month's average of 4.6 degrees. But by the middle of December the night temperatures will drop to remain close to the average temperature.
Weather in Delhi will also become colder as night temperatures are expected to fall by mid-December. Delhi recorded a minimum of 9.8 degrees on Monday morning which is marginally above normal.
Weather in Delhi along with northwest hills and plains in the next few days will largely depend on the appearances of Western Disturbance in the Western Himalayan region.
The approach and presence of Western Disturbances makes nights warmer by restricting heat radiation through clouding. During the stay of Western Disturbance, northerly winds stop blowing and easterly winds begin to reach the plains of North India. But as the Western Disturbance moves away, cooler winds start blowing over the plains thus bringing down the temperatures. Clouding by these weather systems also lead to day temperatures dropping as surface heating becomes less.
