Winter in Delhi: Warm start to December

December 3, 2013 4:13 PM |

It's already December and being located in the northern plains, the national capital should have started experiencing a drop in temperatures. But the weather in Delhi has been a little warm especially during daytime as compared to last year.

Delhi recorded more than 28 degrees as maximum temperature on the first two days of December this year. To be precise, the city registered 28.4 degrees as maximum on Monday at its Safdarjung observatory which is four notches above the average for the month. Last year it was 23 and 25 degrees on the first two days of December.

On the other hand, the maximum and minimum temperatures at the Palam observatory on Tuesday were recorded at 4 and 3 degrees, respectively, higher than the normal. The observatory recorded 28.3 degrees as maximum while the minimum settled at 12.4 degrees. The day temperatures are four to five notches higher than the first two days of last December.

Weather in Delhi this week

Weather forecast of Delhi does not hint towards any significant drop in day temperatures this week. More surface heating due to clear skies will keep the temperatures high. Meanwhile, night temperatures could fall marginally during the next two days due to some snowfall in the Western Himalayan region caused by the presence of a Western Disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir. Cool northerly winds from the hills could bring down the night temperatures marginally. So be ready for cold morning and evening hours. Mist or shallow fog will persist in the city during early morning.
