November is about to end but the real winter chill is still missing from the hills and plains of North India. Though few places in Punjab and Haryana saw the night temperatures drop to single digit between November 17 and November 22, successive Western Disturbances did not allow the cold northwesterly winds to set in over the northern plains, which would have helped in either sustaining the temperature or pulling it down further.
If the WDs had given good snow over the hills and rains over the plains then winter would have entered the region with a bang by now.
However, the ongoing WD is now expected to move away. But the induced cyclonic circulation which is over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan will linger for next 3 days due to which the winds will become southeasterlies and the minimums will rise by 2 to 3 degrees. This temperature will sustain till November 30.
Isolated light rain is also possible on November 29 and 30 at some places in North Rajasthan, North Madhya Pradesh and Delhi-NCR.
Thereafter, the winds in the region will start blowing from northerly or northwesterly direction. As these winds will be coming from the snow clad mountains, the temperatures are expected to drop significantly from December 1 or December 2 leading to complete onset of winter.
