Winter chill to intensify over plains of North India

After the wake of the last Western Disturbance, warm winters have taken a back-seat from the plains of North India.

The temperatures, which were settling well above the average levels, have registered a significant drop.

Not only have some pockets recorded a significant drop but cold day and cold wave conditions have also made a comeback over a few pockets of the North Indian plains.

Some of the cities have even recorded their minimum temperatures below the five-degree mark.

These cold conditions will continue through the weekend. Winter chill is likely to intensify all across the plains of North India including Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and parts of West Uttar Pradesh during the next two to three days. On January 21 and 22, both day and night temperatures will register a further drop.

Not only will winter chill intensify, but a few pockets of the North Indian plains are also expected to see some rainfall activity. An induced cyclonic circulation has formed over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan. This system will gradually move towards the east giving light rain over isolated pockets of Delhi, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh on January 19.

This rain belt will shift towards the east by January 20, and moderate northerly winds will start blowing over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan. These icy cold winds will result in a further drop in temperatures.

After that, cold wave conditions will intensify and cover some more parts of the North Indian plains. Frost is also expected over a few pockets of Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh.
