After witnessing respite from biting cold, winter chill is back again across Central India. With northerly winds returning to the region, the minimums of Rajasthan and Gujarat have already dropped by 1-2 degrees Celsius, while the minimums of Chhattisgarh, Vidharbha and North Maharashtra dropped by 3-5 degrees Celsius.
According to weathermen, northerly winds are cold during the winter season, while easterlies and south-easterlies are comparatively warmer.
During the last 48 hours, the drop in the minimum temperature over Central India has been significant one which is by 8-10 degrees Celsius. This drop in the temperatures is the result of icy cold winds from snow capped Himalayas across Northwest and Central India. Similarly, the maximum temperature also decreased due to the presence of cold winds.
We expect these winds to continue for another 24 hours which will further drop the temperatures, leading to cold wave conditions in isolated pockets of North Rajasthan.
After 24 hours, the drop in minimums will get arrested over Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh, but Chhatisgarh may see further fall to 1-2 degrees Celsius.
By the evening of January 11, another active Western Disturbance will approach the Western Himalayas and the winds will change their direction from northerly to southeasterly. Due to this, the minimums of Central and North India will start rising once again.
