During the last few days, Bihar and Jharkhand had been recording good spell of winter rains. In fact, it was a prolonged spell for both the neighbouring states where light to moderate rains with few intense spells were witnessed.
However, these rains have now subsided, paving for return of cold northerly winds over the region. So far, a trough which was running across the Indo-Gangetic plains had been infusing moisture, resulting in rains. Constant cloud cover had kept both the maximum and minimum temperatures on the higher side.
As per weathermen, the trough has now become insignificant. With this, the weather has now cleared up across the states. The wind direction has now also changed from humid southeasterly to chilly northerlies. With winds from the ice-capped Himalayas making a comeback, both the day and night temperatures have dropped significantly by five to six degrees.
On Thursday, day maximums dropped by 4-5 degrees, while night temperature saw a drop of 3-4 degrees. With this, winter chill has again gripped Bihar and Jharkhand.
Similar weather conditions would prevail over the states for the next 2-3 days. Hence, we do expect any relief from the wintry conditions.
