After the passage of the Western Disturbance, winds have changed direction and temperatures are dropping in Delhi NCR. As a result, Cold Day conditions are persisting in Delhi and NCR area like Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad since the last 48 hours.
For instance, the minimum temperature on the morning of January 8 in Delhi was 12.4°C which dropped 4 degrees on January 9 to settle at 8.4°C. The drop in the temperature was greater today morning as the minimum at the Safdarjung Observatory settled at a shivering 5.3°C. The Palam Observatory also recorded a minimum of 5.4°C.
According to meteorologists, there will be a marginal increase in the temperatures today as the sky is likely to remain clear. Bright sunshine is expected to prevail throughout the day.
Winds from North will continue to blow in Delhi and NCR area today as well, leading to lower maximum temperatures. Cold Day conditions will now ease out but Cold Wave like conditions will take over until tomorrow.
However, a gradual increase in minimum is likely tomorrow onward as another Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayas around the night of January 11.
January 12 onward we expect winds to change from northwesterlies to southeasterlies. Minimums will start rising once again. We expect rain and thundershower activities over Delhi and NCR around January 13 and 14.
Thereafter, another spell is expected around January 15. So, around January 16 and 17, once again the temperatures will start to drop in Delhi and NCR area due to northerly cold winds. Pollution levels will remain in 'moderate' category over most places. One or two places might see air in the 'poor' category as well.
