Weather conditions in the plains of North India have been cold for quite some time now. Both minimum as well as maximum temperatures have been settling below the normal levels. Areas in Punjab and Haryana have been witnessing the mercury going several notches below than usually.
The last 24 hours have been slightly better and the minimums have risen over several areas. However, the next 24 to 48 hours will see cold weather conditions making a comeback. In fact, areas including Delhi and the NCR region are already feeling the winter chill.
The minimum temperature in Agra settled at 4.9°C which is three degrees below normal, Sultanpur 4°C (-3 degrees), and Hisar at 3.6°C (-3 degrees).
These weather conditions will be attributed to the presence of icy cold northerly winds which continue to bring cold conditions to the Northern Plains. While back to back Western Disturbances are approaching the Western Himalayas, their impact will only be felt in the hills of North India.
Thus, the northern plains will remain unaffected and the weather conditions will remain cold. Mornings and nights will be colder as compared to the days. So much so that some areas in North India may even witness cold day conditions.
However, days will also be cold enough and maximum temperatures in several parts of Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh along with Rajasthan will settle below the normal levels.
