Cold wave remains unabated over most parts of northwestern plains for the second consecutive day. In fact, night temperatures have plummeted further, especially in Rajasthan where mercury has also gone below zero degree.
On Thursday morning, Churu recorded minimum temperature at -1.9°C, seven degrees below average. This made the city the coldest city in the country today. Sriganganagar was not far behind which recorded -1.1°C, six degrees below normal.
Rest of the places of the state are also recording temperatures between 1 and 3°C.
Moreover, cold wave conditions will continue to grip parts of Rajasthan during the next 24 to 48 hours. According to Skymet Weather, clear sky conditions are paving way for cold and dry northwesterly winds over the northwestern plains.
These uninterrupted winds will continue to reach up to Rajasthan for at least next 24 to 48 hours that will keep mercury on the lower side. Some places could see further drop in the mercury but now it will be a marginal one.
We can expect some relief after January 14 on account of a fresh Western Disturbance which is approaching Jammu and Kashmir. The system will interrupt the chilly winds and it will be replaced by warm and humid southeasterly winds.
These winds will then increase the minimum temperatures and cold wave conditions will abate.
Following are the morning temperatures recorded across the state on Thursday:
