Weather in Gujarat that remains gentle and arid during this time of the year was witnessing unusually cold weather during the past week. While Plains of North India including Delhi, Haryana and Punjab have been witnessing harsh winter season and dense fog, coastal parts of Gujarat were also observing similar weather.
During the last week, minimum temperature of many areas of Gujarat were running below by 3-5 degrees due to the flow of northerly and northeasterly winds blowing from the snow clad mountains of Jammu and Kashmir and North Pakistan.
These cold winds were instrumental in dropping temperature throughout Northwestern plains including Gujarat. For instance, Ahmedabad had minimum temperature around 7-8°C which was 4 degrees below than the normal, Surat was observing minimum settle at 11-12°C which was 3 degrees below than the normal.
The unusually cold weather in Gujarat brought life to a standstill in nights and early morning hours. However, now the temperatures are showing an increasing trend and reaching close to normal. A Western Disturbance is approaching the hills of North India and an induced cyclonic circulation is forming over North Rajasthan due to which wind flow over Gujarat and adjoining areas of Rajasthan is changing.
As a result, cold weather will ease down in parts of Gujarat.
