Both day and night temperatures have plunged significantly in the last few days over Gujarat and are being recorded quite below normal. While the day temperatures are below normal by 5 to 6 degrees over many places whereas minimums are 2 to 3 degrees below. Although during the last 24 hours, the minimum temperatures haven’t dropped much, many cities have recorded single digit minimums. In fact, Naliya recorded a minimum of 3.4°C which is the lowest of the season. In fact, it is the lowest temperature in the city since 2012. Similarly, other cities like Bhuj, Kandla, Keshod, Mahua, Porbandar, Rajkot etc. are also witnessing single digit minimum temperatures.

The western state of Gujarat was waiting for Winters to set in over the state for a long time. Recently, the winds have changed direction and cool northerly winds are blowing over the region all the way from the snow-clad Western Himalayas. This is the reason behind this drop in temperatures.

We expect the temperatures to remain below normal for at least the next three to four days. Although there may be a gradual increase after 48 hours as the wind direction will start changing to easterly.

Most places in Gujarat are expected to experience below normal day and night temperatures for at least the next one week. Meanwhile, nights will remain cold and day will be sunny and pleasant as the day temperatures will remain in the range of lower 20s to mid-20s.
