Winds blowing over Delhi bring down pollution, more improvement likely

Delhi pollution still continues to be in ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’ category over many places today morning as well. Although, winds have now picked up pace. Light northwesterly winds are continually blowing over the region since midnight. Now, we expect these winds to pick even more pace during the daytime. This will definitely lead to a decrease in pollution levels over Delhi and NCR.

These winds will further pick up pace tomorrow, leading to further improvement in the pollution. However, this improvement is only short lived as these winds will subside soon after as a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to approach Western Himalayas by the evening of November 25. So, we can say that the air quality will once again plunge after a marginal decrease in pollution today and tomorrow. The air will remain unhealthy.

We expect light scattered rains over Delhi NCR on November 26. This is when the air quality is expected to show a big improvement. However, much depends upon the intensity and spread of rains as well. In fact, the upcoming rains can even make the situation worse if the intensity remains light. Light rains will only lead to more mist and haze formation.

Although, we expect good rains over Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. These rains might also play an instrumental role in reducing the smoke of stubble burning blowing towards Delhi and NCR.
