According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India widespread snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and rain in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh was recorded in the last 24 hours.
Here’s a look at some of the stations in J&K, H.P and Uttarakhand that recorded rain/snow:
Banihal – 29.3 mm, Batote – 28.4 mm, Bhaderwah – 13.4 mm, Pahalgam – 24.1 mm, Srinagar – 12.1 mm, Dharamshala – 2.1, Katra – 8.1 mm, Jammu – 4.1 mm, Chamba – 7 mm, Kapla – 15.8 mm, Keylong – 3 mm, Kullu – 3.8 mm, Manali – 12mm, Shimla – 1 mm , Solan – 15 mm, Nainital – 7 mm, Mussoorie – 4 mm and Dehradun – 10 mm.
The weather in Delhi and adjoining regions turned cloudy, rainy and dusty from 5 pm onwards yesterday. Rain continued to occur in patches till 7 pm. Below are the rainfall figures in the plains of North India:
Delhi (Safdurjung) - 0.2 mm of rain, Delhi University – 2 mm, Amritsar – 1.2 mm, Ropar – 1 mm, Ferozpur – 2 mm, Tarn Taran – 1 mm, Ganganagar – 0.2 mm and Meerut – 3 mm of rainfall.
“We reiterate, rain occurred in entire North India due a Western Disturbance in the hills and a cyclonic circulation near west Rajasthan. The two systems merged together and gave rain and snow”, says G.P Sharma of Skymet Meteorology Division.
“North India may continue to witness similar weather conditions in the coming days. Snowfall in the hills and rain in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab is a big possibility. This activity would bring temporary changes in the mercury levels.”, added the meteorologist.
The maximum temperature in Delhi yesterday was the highest so far, at 35.2⁰C. The minimum also settled on the higher side at 18.2⁰C, early morning today.
