A low level cyclonic circulation is currently sitting over Jharkhand and West Bengal. Moisture laden winds from the Bay of Bengal are hitting northeast India causing widespread rainfall in the region. The states of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Manipur have witnessed rain activity. Rain is likely to continue in the region for the next four to five days.
Isolated heavy rains are expected over Arunachal Pradesh and upper Assam in the next 24 hours. Incessant rains in the region have led to a drop in both maximum as well as minimum temperatures. Maximum temperature is currently settling in the mid-20s while minimums are recording at around 16 to 18°C.
Several places in the region have recorded double-digit rain. Dibrugarh recorded 21.3 mm rain, Lakhimpur 48.7 mm, Silchar 29.4 mm, Tezpur 15.6 mm, Itanagar 57.8 mm, Pasighat 54.9 mm, Cherrapunji 44.5 mm, Lengpui 30.2 mm, Kohima 15.4 mm, and Agartala 25.5 mm. Other places like Guwahati (0.8 mm) and Mangan (11.2 mm) also received rain.
Weather forecast for the region points towards at least four to five days of rainy conditions. Temperatures are not expected to rise and cool conditions shall prevail.
